大家好!!!
Hello everyone! I'm starting my first year of Mandarin Chinese at College.
I love the language, I'm intrigued by the culture and History....I'm in simply in love with it.
My question is, would practicing Chinese conversation 2 or 3 hours a a day everyday improve my pronunciation for the next 3 months?
For the ones who have studied Chinese, how long would it take to acquire and "OK" accent? My mother tongue is Spanish so it helps me to imitate sounds easier.
Any suggestions welcome! And any tutors too!

I already am pretty fluent in Spanish, and when I start college I am interested in pursuing a third language. I hear from some people that mandarin chinese is going to be the next international business language. Then others tell me japanese is more useful. So which is it?

How many Characters should I learn to master basic Chinese language?

What Is The Best Site To Study Chinese Language Online For Free , And You Can Study The Pinyin Writing Language Too !?

I read that there is a special word for the vegetarian religion or the vegetarian vow in Chinese Buddhism. But the book did not say what the word was. I am trying to find a Buddhist sect that has a special vegetarian vow and I think if I had the word in Pinyin it would make searching easier. Also I wondered if there is a Chinese word for the branch of Buddhism called "humanistic Buddhism". Thanks!

so i met this guy. he's half viet and half chinese. but instead of saying chinese, he says cantonese-chinese. or something along those lines. because my other friend says she speaks cantonese and is catonese. or is it both?

I just don't understand why people regard Mandarin as such an important language. Sure, it's the most spoken language in the world, but outside of China, where else would you use it? If you got stuck anywhere in the world, chances are Mandarin won't help...

I'm looking for evidence on why people should NOT learn Chinese as a second language. It's for a debate.

Things like number of people who do not learn a second language, difficulty in learning Chinese and similar stuff would be most useful. I keep getting evidence for the other side... >.<
我会中文,但是我对英文的网站比较有兴趣。

I'm not interested in writing or being able to read Chinese, I just want to be able to speak and communicate with people.

The idea of learning a language in a class room environment is torture to me.

My plan is to use the Rosetta Stone for my first semester and study abroad in China during my second semester. I hope that by using the Rosetta Stone I can have a fairly good understanding of the language and when I finally get to China, my Mandarin could only improve even more.

Thank you for the suggestion, however, I have tried Bablefish and others. They allow me to only translate from Chinese simple or traditional to English.

Can any regular viewers of the PCNE channel (available in Europe via Sky digital, 28.5E) tell me whats the balance in approximate percentage terms of the amount of programming it provides in Mandarin and Cantonese?

I'm more interested in Cantonese programming and news, i.e. do they have regular news reports/programs in Cantonese on this channel?

Does programming in Mandarin have subtitles?

Thank you.

I'm trying to learn Chinese and I feel that reading a book and repeatedly listening to the audio would be a great way to really help me learn the language well. Thanks!

I know the "technical" tones are Wo(3) xiang(3) qing(3) ni(3) chi(1) wan(3) fan(4). BUT, I thought the rule was that if there are 2 third tones, the first word becomes second tone. So how come when I listen to pronunciation it sounds like Wo(3) xiang(3) qing(2) ni(3) . . . ?

MY friend says if you're asian and you take Mandarin as a foreign language in high school, good colleges won't like it or even accept it.

I took Spanish in high school, but I don't really enjoy it. I either want to take French, Mandarin or Arabic next year. I will probably be a businessman so I am wondering which language will be the most useful? China is a rapidly growing power, so I thought Mandarin may be useful, but on the other hand French is good to know (especially in the fashion business) because so many people speak it. Which language do you feel would be most useful in this day and age in business?

I want to continue learning Chinese after high school because I want to become a Chinese language interpreter and later on a Chinese teacher. I want to find a nice College that will offer an exchange program so I can go over to China/ Taiwan to study. So can anyone recommend any colleges?
