what do you think i heard some people said that but if we study about the english in many conutries is the second language around the wordl and the chineses is a language tone so you can say 1 word like 4 differents forms and each tone mean different thing.and you can image the chinese in computer like visual basic.c++,etc...and the teacher say in china all the business are in eglish and you don't need to speak chinese sooo what do you think

I keep hearing this from various sources like the internet and people who are studying it in school. I am considering taking it as a double-major or something in college.

Any opinions on it?

considering that 3/4s are of Chinese origin and a study said that more of Chinese-Singaporeans prefer to communicate in Mandarin over English at home even among the highly educated?

if yes, why?
if no, then why are those chinese saying that? and why many people start to learn this language?

Should i start to learn this ? will it be helpful to learn ?

I ask about those three languages mentoned above, because they are the most widely spoken in the world. German is a waste of time, because most Germans speak English. French at least is spoken in some African Countries...

Or do you believe that the world should learn English and Americans should not bother?

I heard before that Mandarin Chinese is the most "spoken" language in the world. Before I heard this, I thought that English held that title. Is Mandarin Chinese just the most common native/first language? Is English the most universally known language?

I don't know exactly what was measured in order to obtain this fact.

Currently I am working in Singapore and there is a lot of people who already speak English and Mandarin so I am not sure if it will be really beneficial.

Any advice?
