Hi there Kris! I’m a pureblooded Cantonese. I don’t live in PRC or HK but according to my father, we believe we have a long lost relative in HK. My paternal ancestry is from Guangdong dong-gun whilst my maternal ancestry is from Guangdong san-wui. I love watching those TVB serials as they are about the only ones that I could understand…lol….besides American dramas of course.
Anyway, these are some sites where you can get some gist of Cantonese. Have fun and happy learning.
watch a lot of Hong Kong drama . I learnt my cantonese from them .
I’m from Hong Kong, Cantonese is my first language! I agree with the first answer and you can make friends with people who speaks fluent Cantonese and practise with them.
i can help you.one of my friend from hongkong, used to call me and talk to me in chinese so as to study chinese.

I agree that watch more Hong Kong drama from TVB may improve your language. I was born in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong, and came to US when I was 8. I learn most of the writing and the speaking technique from TVB’s Hong Kong news and its drama. Of course, maybe Hong Kong drama is not so interesting to American but it is still very attractive since their dramas have different topics. Im a Hong Kong drama fan and would be gladly to promote the dramas that I was born with to more oversea audiences. i strongly hope that you that while you are interest in learning cantonese to enjoy and hope to like Hong Kong dramas
Speak with your cantonese friends.
All the above answers are great. It’s a little bit harder to learn cantonese because it is not taught formally as much as mandarin. I bought a Comet English-Spanish-Chinese dictionary and it’s beeb great. It speaks the words in all those languages, and for chinese it speaks mandarin and cantonese.
I’m a Filipino but I can speak fluent in chinese – Mandarin.
The best way to learn Chinese is to get a good book – English/Chinese, read it and apply it.
Hint: First, I’ve study Cantonese but later I found that Mandarin is essential as most people in Guangdong right now came from north who speaks Mandarin and I don’t have a problem communicating the people in Hong Kong because most of them can understand English.
