It is quite difficult to start out at, but it can get a lot easier with pratice. I have been studing it for four and a half years, and though I will still make mistakes, I am quite well versed in it. The hardest part (speaking) is the tones and the different sounds. Also quite hard is reading, but it is so intregrated into the language that with effort you can pick it up. I love the language, and think that it is a great one to learn, as long as you are willing to put in the effort to learn it , and to pratice it to learn it well .

I wouldn’t say it was different but you would have to dismiss the way any other language using Phonics is performed! and become clear before you begin!

It’s one of the hardest languages to learn. Example- my nonwestern art forms teacher has been studying for a decade and her in-laws tease her because she talks like a four-year old.

it’s really difficult to learn to write in Chinsese let alone speak in Chinese

i have a friend who took a Chinese course, and all he learned was to say some simply things in mandarin, and the teacher never taught he how to write the chinese characters!
