Hi there, I want you to ignore most of the "pop genre" bands as alot of them lack artistic integrity.
But I want you to pay attention to a rock solo legend that lead the rock n roll genre in Beijing China, he wrote the anthem, "Nothing to My Name", for the Tianmen Square incident for the Chinese students. He’s considered a cultural icon.
His name is "Cui Jian".

Another Chinese(Taiwanese) musician I want you to look up is a contemporary singer/musician named, Jay Chou. He is considered one of the most prominent artists now in the Chinese music scene, and known throughout asia. His music are in the pop genre, but he adopted the latest musics from around the globe and came up with uniquely Chinese characteristics in his pieces.

From Hong Kong, there’s one rock band you need to know, and they are called: "Beyond". Their lead singer died during a stage performance in the early 90’s. They continue to compose and produce their own original works till this day.
