proper approach and daily efforts...

there is't anything easier than "doing nothing"...

thus whatever you do (read books, write han-zi, listento the tapes) -- you choose and do it daily...

with time quantity turns to quality...

As far as i am concerned, Learning Chinese online is the best way to learn Chinese. You could arrange your time and learn Chinese easily if you could access to internet. eChineseLearning could provide one-on-one online live Chinese lessons with professional Chinese teachers, and your Chinese learning is based on your level, pattern and pace. It's so fantastic and effective to learn Chinese online, and you could get unexpected results.

First take a free trial lesson!

Absolutely! I attended a special one-week language training seminar regarding higher language learning methods. I have taught 2 classes to learn asian languages and they were reading in less than 6 months time - which is not an easy feat. Rosetta Stone was rated as one of the best products without a teacher. It is of course expensive. Perhaps this program is more affordable: http://tinyurl.com/yjn8u43

I believe you can learn Chinese in some website by yourself. Or you can find a private teacher online. Most important is you should have plan and interest to hold learning day and day

Rosetta Stone is pretty good, but expensive:
$539 for levels 1 - 3;
$409 for levels 1 - 2; or
$229 for level 1,
$299 for level 2,
$299 for level 3
Also they tend to be more vocabulary-based than grammar based. It's a good program, just be aware that you might have to use another source for additional grammar.

I like Rosetta Stone because it matches pictures with the sounds-something helpful for both visual and audio learners. Also, you get a headset that enables you to practice both correct pronunciation and hear/develop an accent.

Additional (free) sources are in the references as well. Hope this helps!
