What is the word in Chinese Mandarin Pinyin for “vegetarian vow” or similar? Also “humanistic buddhism”?
I read that there is a special word for the vegetarian religion or the vegetarian vow in Chinese Buddhism. But the book did not say what the word was. I am trying to find a Buddhist sect that has a special vegetarian vow and I think if I had the word in Pinyin it would make searching easier. Also I wondered if there is a Chinese word for the branch of Buddhism called "humanistic Buddhism". Thanks!

Hi hi,
Normally, for the chinese, if we are under vegetarian vow, we just says, we eat vegetarian food. People will know you are under vow.
It is written this way: 我吃素, wo chi su, I eat vegetarian food. 我一生吃素, wo yi sheng chi su, I eat vegetarian food all my life, 我从前吃过素, I used to eat vegetarian food.
素, vegetarian food.
Perhaps in chinese, there is a specific word for it, thus the vow is not required to show the seriousness of the practises.
Cheers,
Thanks. I’m supposed to cook for my new vegetarian girlfriend next weekend and have no idea what to make! I found a ton of recipes at this vegetarian recipes site but with soo many to choose from I just got confused. Do you have any favorites youself, like .. the tastiest vegetarian recipe, ever, or something?! Thanks in advance! I’m so clueless about this vegetarian stuff
