It's the most spoken language in the world, China is a large and developing nation, the Chinese are not nearly as sympathetic to foreigners, and I have a question: You mean Mandarin Chinese, right? Because if you mean Cantonese or one of the other kinds, then it's not the most spoken...

Chinese is spoken by more than half the world's population.
that is a powerfully large number of people; it just seems respectable to learn their language.

The US, and other countries, are doing more and more business with the Chinese. Learning Chinese now wil be a plus if you want to work for one of the multinational companies, or many places in the federal government.

1 China economy on the world stage has elevated, so that chinese has become a popular language. A growing number of overseas students are learning Chinese as a new fashion,
2 China's increasingly powerful stature and more business opportunities relating to the Chinese language means it has become one of the world's most important business tools. It is critical to the success of business negotiations.

So more and more people choose the Chinese as their second foreign language!
